A Typical HK Breakfast

These are char siew paus hubby bought for breakfast from a nearby pau shop. The ones back home can be quite dry. I like mine with (sufficient) gravy oozing out. Hubby dear, it's time for another round of 'pau breakfast'!!

Local Pudding

Got these cuties (and yummies) from hubby's patient. Looks like the wood husks pudding from Your Restaurant (as stated in my makan guidebook "Eat Your Way Around HK") but cuter.

Yummy pudding layered with biscuit crumbs...

... superb combination.

Oyster Egg

Had been asking hubby to tapau back some 'oh-chean' or oyster egg (?) for supper and so finally hubby did with the help of HL ;p

Seriously no big deal (HL already warned us). I very much prefer the ones in Mlk. This one somehow had a very mild porky sort of after taste. Hubby was saying that they used the same wok. And it didn't help that no chili sauce came with the 'oh-chean' - only a small packet of fish sauce, which we discarded.

However the one thing that I like about it was the generous amount of oysters!

My Birthday Cake

We first heard rave reviews of Awfully Chocolate from Kor and Karen years ago. I even cut an Awfully Choc cake with my 'evil' twin *wink* a few years back (in one of those rare moments where we actually celebrated our birthday together literally). So you can imagine my excitement when I found out last year that they have branches here!

Hubby got me Awfully Chocolate's all chocolate cake for me birthday. Thank you dear! *muacks* Was so tempted for the chocolate rum and cherry but for obvious reasons we didn't get that.

True to its name - rich and chocolatey!

Of course Annabel had a slice too!

Annabel was so excited posing with mommy and the cake...

... and blowing the candle too... while patiently awaits for her slice!

The ultimate snacking indulgence

I'm no fan of snacks and junk food but I have a particular weakness for this one. I could just go on and on. And anything that tastes this yummy (and addictive) definitely couldn't be healthy!

Dumpling: nyonya style

I managed to satisfy my nyonya chang craving, all thanks to HL (hubby's junior cum my schoolmate cum half peranakan). She said the dumplings were a bit too peppery, but hey, beggars are not choosers right? Plus I love the spiciness of pepper. Hubby was also kind enough to donate half of his to me hihi ^_^
Before the attack.

Yea, still sempat to ambil gambar.

Local and not-so-local

Sago pudding (on your left) and pineapple bun. Hubby bought both from Maxim's. The pineapple bun is quite common in bakeries here, and this one has a pineapple custard filling. The sago pudding tasted a little like nyonya kaya. Nice.

Then we went to Citygate Outlet at Tung Chung on Sat. I will recommend this place to those who are visiting hk. It is a factory outlet shopping haven with loads of good international brands like nike, adidas, quicksilver, timberland, ralph lauren, esprit, benetton, coach (coming soon) and many many more! Plus Citygate Outlet has Food Republic! Hubby's lunch of wat else but nasi lemak! This one comes with a bowl of soup!!
I took the pineapple fried rice, complete with chicken floss and raisins.. just the way I like my pineapple fried rice ^_^

Happy Mother's Day

We had sort of an early celebration last friday. Went to ifc mall after dinner. Quite impressed with it. Very spacious and huge. Only managed to cover a small part of the ground floor. No, the celebration wasn't the mall. It was what that comes after that...
The night view from a connecting bridge from the mall.

We then headed to Honeymoon Dessert at the western market for some local desserts!!!
Hubby had the mango and sago dessert.
I was scouring the menu for my all-time fav peanut paste but unfortunately tak ada. So i resorted to the sweet balls in walnut paste.

The texture is thick and creamy and it is not too sweet. The sweet balls had some peanuty filling and it goes very well with the paste. Simply yummy.

I got a cake too on mommy's day. Didn't expect it ^_^

Ordered dinner from Ebeneezer's Kebabs and Pizzeria (delivery). I took the chicken tikka beriani.

It is simply delicious. And one can choose the level of spiciness being mild, moderate or spicy (makes me kempunan Beppu Menkan sobs!). Naturally I took the spicy. C'mon how spicy can it be especially in hk?!.. and later wow, it was really pedas. It has been ages since i reached that level of spiciness. I could almost feel my metabolic rate increased, and had to pause for air. Barulah ada oomph!!

Egg tart

Hubby bought this from a local bakery. I am not really a tart person, but since I am here of course I need to have some egg tarts every now and then (all in search for the perfect one). This one is not too bad, and it has flaky puff.

Bagels anyone?

Discovered something new in the Melaka food scene. Stumbled upon the Vienna Bagel kiosk in Mahkota Parade (somewhere opposite Poh Kong, near the 1901 hotdog kiosk). Now, anything that sounds foreign must be nice. So I decided to get some. And it was my lucky day - they were having a buy-one-free-one promotion for a week (being new and all).
Nice box packing.

So I asked if it is ok not to reheat it. And I was told that it wouldn't be as soft as it claimed. Hmmm...

It was something like pretzels but softer but not as fluffy as doughnuts (yes, even without reheating!). There are two varieties - savoury and sweet. Clockwise from your top left: jalapeno and cheese (the only savoury I took), oreo crumble, peanut-coated chocolate, coffee sprinkle on white chocolate, almond nut-coated chocolate and cinnamon sprinkle on white chocolate.
My verdict? I would go for the savoury type and perhaps the cinnamon. Maybe I'm being biased as the jalapeno had a tinge of spiciness (duh!). And if you know me you would know that I can't live without spicy food (the more spicy the better). Mom said it tasted like pizza. Well, I can definitely live without this one. On second thought, I'll have that jalapeno and cheese again.

Doughnuts or donuts?

It is finally here. Yes, the craze for Big Apple doughnuts is finally here in Melaka! What is so special about a bunch of different topping doughnuts? There are a whole lot of 'new' (to doughnuts) flavours. And most importantly the toppings are of good quality (you can taste the difference), hence the dear price of RM2.20 a doughnut. These treats are soft and fluffy and not too big. A piece is often not enough. My favourite has got to be Duren Duren! Some are saying JCo is better but I have yet to try that.

Clockwise from top right: Duren Duren - durian-filled doughnut (they use fresh durians hence you are advised to consume it within three hours), chocolate shavings with tri-sliver of strawberry cream atop melted chocolate, melted chocolate, vanilla filling inside (reminds me of "Flowers in the Attic" whereby the grandma fed her grandkids arsenic-laced doughnuts, which happens to look somewhat like this), mango doughnut,.. and yours truly couldn't wait to indulge in Duren Duren before taking these pics hence the empty space. And yes, I bought two of those.

As much as i try to deny it, I'm now a member of Big Apple Anonymous.
